CBSE has launched an education kit on moral values. The kit briefs about guidelines on moral education for teachers.
The kit comprises of a CD with 8 songs
and Values Education Teachers Handbook. It also contains activity cards
for students from nursery to class XII. The handbook also lists 47
classroom worthy movies that showcase social and moral values. Some of
the Bollywood hits included in the list are Raj Kapoor's Boot Polish,
Nagesh Kukunoor’s Dor, Sanjay Dutt starrer Lage Raho Munna Bhai, No One
Killed Jessica, Aamir Khan’s Lagaan, Amitabh Bachchan starrer Baghban
and Irfan Khan starrer Paan Singh Tomar. CBSE strongly feels that Indian
cinema can play a key role in imparting social and moral values among
the students. CBSE is implementing changes in its curriculum to address
the challenges evolving due to lack of ethical education among
students.
Some of the children's
films include Bumm Bumm Bole, The Blue Umbrella based on a Ruskin Bond
novel,Parichay, Taare Zameen Par and Chillar Party. A series of
patriotic films included are LOC: Kargil, Haqeeqat, Kranti, Shaheed,
Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose: The Forgotten Hero, The Rising: Ballad of
Mangal Pandey, The Legend of Bhagat Singh, Sardar and Upkar. The
handbook also covers some of the Indian classics - Do Bigha Zamin, Purab
Aur Pachhim, Mother India, Manthan, Naya Daur, Jagriti and Do Ankhen
Barah Haath.
The only Hollywood films featured in the list are-Sidney Poitier’s To Sir, with Love and the Tom Hanks starrer Cast Away.
The curriculum for Value Education has been designed in a way that it
involves interactive learning and addresses current challenges with
opportunities for critical thinking.
