NAGPUR: The last week of October was celebrated as the Joy of Giving week by the newly formed Students' Welfare Association of NKP Salve Institute of Medical Sciences.
Old clothes, shoes, books and toys were donated to underprivileged
children. The students also spent a day with the children who would
benefit from these proceeds.
"Earlier, the students' associations would only organize a few events in the college, but was not involved in any social activity. When I was elected, I wanted this to change. So, with the encouragement of Dr Sunita Ghike, who is the teacher representative in the association, we have decided that we would conduct one good activity every month," said newly installed president of SWA Surabhi Mitra. Later, the association will also take up awareness activities against vices like tobacco and alcohol consumption.

Many
donation boxes were kept at strategic places in the medical college and
students and teachers were requested to donate. These were given away
to Vimalashram Gharkul of Amrapali Utkarsh Sangh founded by Ram Ingole.
"After spending time with Ingole and the children, we learnt how one can
overcome all adversities and be happy in life," said Surabhi.
Head of the radiology department of the college Dr Kajal Mitra asked Ingole how the students could help them on a regular basis and it was decided that regular medical camps will be held by the college at the orphanage.
