The teaching faculty at the Carnegie Mellon University (CMU), USA has recently launched highly relevant online business courses for both Indian students and working professionals.
Systems Engineering Professor Raj Chakrabarti and Financial Economics
professor Anisha Ghosh of CMU have decided to advance the courses
through Academic Financial Trading Platform (AFTP), which is the first
Massively Open Online Course (MOOC) platform.
MOOCs have proved beneficial for students and professionals across the
world as it offers top university level courses, online, which are
absolutely free of cost. Video lectures and weekly assessment tests are
the modes through which these MOOC’s operate. They have turned out to be
highly dependable courses for anyone accessing it from anywhere on the
planet. The courses offered on AFTP are on par with those taught at the
university, as far as the level of difficulty is concerned. Therefore,
the students who have successfully completed their course would be
granted an official certificate as a reward for their excellence in the
areas of Investments, Macroeconomics, and Corporate Finance.
Apart from theoretical knowledge, AFTP also imparts practical
training, which is very relevant for the industry and in line with the
conventional B-school curriculum.
The first online course was offered in Investment analysis, which began
in the month of November. The lecturers teaching this course are -
Anisha Ghosh and professors from CMU Tepper Business School - Frank A. and Helen E. Risch. The second course would be taught in macroeconomics by Christian Julliard, a professor from London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) January 2013, onwards.
The basic intention behind introducing such online courses is to help
students all over the globe, including developing countries like India,
to explore opportunities for online business and engineering, which have
a wide scope in such countries. Teaching such subjects in classrooms
alone often turns out to be difficult.
The faculty at AFTP belongs to some of the most prestigious and top business schools in the world including CMU, LSE, and the University of Chicago’s Booth School of Business.
