The Quality Circle Forum of India (QCFI) kick started its three-day National Convention on Quality Concepts, at the Indian Institute of Technology – Kanpur
on Monday, December 17, 2012. The convention began in the evening with a
formal inauguration ceremony held at the college auditorium ground. To
welcome the QCFI members who had travelled from far off places in the
country, the college put up a vibrant cultural event.
Officials from the QCFI felicitated the key players from IIT – Kanpur
including the Director of the college, Professors from the Department of
Industrial Management Engineering and senior members of the QCFI.
The QCFI, who celebrate and reward innovative ideas, staged their own
models in an exhibition set up earlier at the campus. This exhibition
demonstrated various problems that the QCFI had faced earlier and their
solutions to fix it. The exhibition was packed with visitors who stopped
by to see it.
One of the winners
in the three-day forum was the team from the Times of India, Ahmadabad.
The team, from the Baroda chapter of the QCFI, designed a model of a
printing machine, which was on display at the exhibition. What set this
model apart is that it is capable of saving paper, which is wasted
during the process of printing.
The machine focused on saving paper reel ends and showcased conservation
of a precious resource. The machine does this by printing smaller ends
of paper reels with minimal newsprint on it. This machine can help save
9,486 kg newsprint per year and has been implemented inTimes of India
Vejalpur Plant in Ahmadabad.
