NAGPUR: The aggrieved
students of Post BSc Diploma in Computer Science and Application
(PGDCS&A) are all set to lose their precious academic year along
with their fees which they paid in lakhs. Thanks to the lethargic
administration of Nagpur University led by vice chancellor
Vilas Sapkal which had failed to take decision on their fate even after
five months of granting them admissions ignoring the very fact that
they were 'ineligible' to pursue the course.
Citing Ordinance No.24 of 2009, TOI had first exposed NU's apathy regarding allowing its own department and other private colleges to admit these 'ineligible' students while charging hefty fees from them. Since last three years, NU had allegedly allowed hundreds of such students to take admission and some of them even went to the extent of completing their MCA degree.
NU had refused to accept their forms and yet to allot them enrolment numbers for the current batch. Though pro-VC Mahesh Yenkie and controller of examinations (CoE) admitted that colleges had admitted 'ineligible' students, they told TOI that they were waiting for legal opinion in this regard before arriving at any decision. But, NU standing counsel Purushottam Patil categorically denied getting any request from NU to provide opinion in PGDCS students case.
The students informed TOI that they were also planning to approach the Nagpur bench of Bombay high court and had already roped in a lawyer for the same. Many of them came calling to TOI office stating that NU was yet to allot them enrolment numbers and their colleges cite the reason that were ineligible as per Ordinance No. 24 of 2009 which clearly stated that student must secure at least 50% aggregate marks in BSc for securing admission into PGDCS&A course. Ironically, many of the students were from NU's own 'Inter-Institutional Computer Centre (IICC) on Amravati Road. They claimed that though NU had provided enrolment numbers to other eligible students, they were not being informed as to why they were ignored. The college authorities told them that their admissions will be cancelled.
TOI had first exposed that nearly thousand admissions were made illegally by blatantly flouting norms just like in the case of MCA. Four of IICC students who completed PGDCS&A were admitted at Ramdeobaba Kamla Nehru College of Engineering in the MCA course. They later appeared for third and fourth semester exams conducted by NU, but after the illegalities came to fore, NU cancelled their admissions.
