Department of Production Engineering, PSG College of Technology is organizing one day workshop on joining plastics by ultrasonic welding on Saturday, July 13, 2013.

PSG College of Technology, Coimbatore established in 1951, is a premier Institution for Engineering education in India. The laboratories, workshops, library and computer centre of the college are well equipped with modern facilities and are of world class standards. A laboratory on Ultrasonic Welding, sanctioned under DST-Women Scientist Scheme, has been set up in the Department of Production Engineering.

About the workshop:

Ultrasonic Welding (USW) of Thermoplastics Emerging structural applications of plastics and their composites in various industries (automobile, aerospace, electrical, consumer, medical and toys) has created a need to develop new joining methods. Ultrasonic welding is rapidly emerging as one of the most preferred methods for joining thermoplastics owing to its capability of producing fast, clean and strong welds.

This workshop is designed to update the   practicing   engineers   from   the   manufacturing sector, polymer engineers and faculty and students from the engineering colleges on the latest trends in the use of ultrasonic welding and joint designs for new products.

Objective of the workshop:

• Highlight the state of the art in ultrasonic welding of thermoplastic components.
• Evolve new and innovative joint designs for better and efficient welding with CAD/CAE applications.
• Understand the basics of Horn design.
• Hands on training in USW machine, associated instrumentation and software (Lab view, thermal imaging).

Registration:

Filled up registration forms are to be submitted along with the DD for registration fee drawn in favor of, PSG CNCE payable at Coimbatore.
