Even after the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education
has partially revised the class 12th syllabi of Maharashtra state
board, the students and teachers remain unsatisfied. The revision has
been made in mathematics, chemistry, physics and biology subjects. The
rest of the subjects will be upgraded in the coming academic year.
The primary concern of the state government was to bring the syllabi at par with the CBSE curriculum to help students crack common entrance tests proposed for 2013.
The difference in the standard of the
syllabi is apparently visible as the CBSE board textbooks are thicker
than the state board books. The reason for this significant difference
is that the CBSE covers most of the topics in great detail than the
state board. The CBSE follows the norms set by the National Council for
Educational Research and Training (NCERT).
However, some state board officials have refused to this stating that
they have taken a great effort in upgrading the syllabi. The government
also believes that all the topics covered in the new syllabi are at par
with the CBSE standards.
The
process of upgrading the syllabi was ignited a few years ago. Eventually
the board upgraded each class successively with the final upgradation
of class 12 syllabi this year. The board aims to prepare its students
for the common entrance tests in engineering and medical proposed by the
HRD ministry.
The first single entrance test known as NEET (National Eligibility Entrance Test),
for medical UG courses will be introduced next year and Maharashtra has
also decided to participate in it. But some students from the state
have expressed concern over the standard of syllabus and stated that it
still lags far behind the CBSE standards.
