Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Bangalore has
successfully concluded its summer placement for the class of 2012-2014
with 126 companies, of which 35 were first-time visitors, offering
internships to 377 students, of which 100 were women. The IIMB summer
internship process was completed in eight slots spread over four days.
Five students with more than 34 months of work experience opted out of
summer internship to pursue other opportunities.
This year IIM Bangalore witnessed an increased demand for their
students across sectors. Over 35 companies visited the campus for the
first time, most of which were from the Oil & Gas, Real Estate,
Media and Education Sectors. Students were recruited for positions all
over India and as many as 35 are expected to intern abroad.
While the financial services segment absorbed around 27% of all
students, 22% of acceptances were in the management consulting sector.
Sales & marketing accounted for 25% of the batch, IT for 12%,
Operations 7% and offers in general management/leadership areas were
about 7%. First-time companies on campus included Facebook, Accel
Partners, Catamaran Ventures, Merck, Alshaya, EBay, GE, Sony, Shell,
DuPont and Uninor.
This year's
summer placements saw 265 offers being made in the first two days. Sales
and Marketing emerged as one of the preferred sectors amongst students,
with media and telecom firms offering roles in sales and marketing for
the first time in addition to other FMCG firms.

Finance:
Around 27% of the batch was offered roles in the financial sector.
About 12% of the batch received internships in the investment banking
and Private Equity sectors; major recruiters were The Blackstone Group,
Goldman Sachs, The Royal Bank of Scotland Group, JP Morgan, Deutsche
Bank and HSBC.
Some of the other
banks that recruited from IIMB this year include Bank of America-Merrill
Lynch, Barclays Capital, Citigroup, Nomura, Rothschild and Standard
Chartered and Edelweiss. American Express, a regular recruiter, selected
7 students for their credit card Sales and Risk Management profiles.
Management Consulting:
Around 22 % of the batch will intern in the consulting sector. Big
recruiters at IIMB this year were The Boston Consulting Group with 12
offers, McKinsey with 11 offers and Accenture Management Consulting with
10 offers. Other prominent recruiters were A. T. Kearney, Booz &
Co., Deloitte S & O, Siemens Management Consulting, Alvarez &
Marsal and Bain & Co.
Sales & Marketing:
Around 25 % of the batch received offers for sales and marketing
internships. Procter & Gamble recruited 7 interns, Amazon made 9
offers while ITC extended 8. Hindustan Unilever, Coca-Cola and Kraft
Cadbury offered positions to IIMB students. Some of the other firms from
this sector were Bharti Airtel, Johnson & Johnson, Nestle, Colgate
Palmolive, L'Oreal, Reckitt Benckiser, Marico, Philips and Heinz.
General Management:
Around 7 % of the batch has chosen to intern in this sector. Aditya
Birla Group took on 9 students and TAS recruited 5. Cairn India,
Mahindra & Mahindra, and Reliance Industries were other major
recruiters in this segment.
