The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi, Chairman SS Mantha cleared that the Management courses seats, especially MBA admission to be filled through the CMAT
entrance exam score. It clarified that the scores of five other
entrance exams like CAT, MAT, XAT, ATMA, JMET would also be taken into
consideration. Only IIMs and other deemed universities will be excluded
from this.
Mantha also said, "beyond these, no other entrance exam would be considered for the admissions,"
The CMAT exam will be conducted online. The Supreme Court too has given a green signal for the same. The exam will be conducted twice a year with a gap of six months and the candidates will have the freedom to appear for both the attempts. The highest score out of the two attempts will be taken into the consideration at time of admissions. The candidates have been given an option to pick three cities from where they want to appear for the exam.
He added that all state have given their consent for CMAT. "Only Tamil Nadu had initially opposed, they had some reservations about its conduct,"
Around 3.5 lakh seats in 3,700 institutes across the country offering PGDM and MBA programmes will e filled by CMAT score. "Among then about 20,000 seats are in 300 institutes offering PGDM, "Mantha Said.
Mantha warned that institutes from admitting the students, who neither passed CAMT nor other entrance exams for Postgraduate management degrees and diplomas. He said that such students will be considered as ineligible and their degrees will not be recognized.
"It has been brought to our notice that even after the Supreme Court order, some institutes were conducting admissions to PGDM courses based on their own entrance test. This public notice is to create awareness among candidates to follow the rules, " Mantha Said.
The notice also makes it clear that all those institutes which fail to adhere to the order of the Supreme Court will be liable for actions as per the provisions of the AICTE (grant of approvals for technical institutions) regulations 2012 and the approval process handbook or instructions issued by AICTE from time to time.
Directorate of Technical Education (DTE), Mumbai made it very clear that students should be admitted in PGDM, PGDBM, MMS and MBA courses only through CAMT from the academic year 2013-14. The notification issued by the technical education director Subash Mahajan stated that DTE has discontinued its popular MAH-MBA/MMS-CET from this year. The DTE called in the aspirants to appear for the CMAT to become eligible for admissions .
Over 500 candidates appeared in the last year CAMT conducted online from Feb 20 to 28 in two shifts. Last year, Tulsiramji Gaikwad-Patil College of Engineering was the only centre in Vidarbha. This year, the number of centres may increase as the number of candidates will jump significantly.
