AHMEDABAD: Students from various business schools in the country, under
the guidance of Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIM-A), are
all set to run a non- governmental organization (NGO) for a day. Among
other things, the students will present a strategy to scale up and
improve the operations of the NGO.
IIM-A is involving other business schools in this unique initiative, which is a part of the premier management institute's annual business summit-Confluence. The institute has invited students to come up with innovative solutions to help NGOs take their cause to the society.
Interested students will be given a chance to work closely with an NGO for a day to help it manage its funds effectively and streamline its activities.
S G Shrinivas, co-ordinator, Corporate Communications, Confluence 2012, said, "Students are required to come up with innovative solutions for a particular NGO, help them sustain and budget their funds more effectively."
Before the main event, which begins on Friday, the institute invited applications from teams across business schools, last month. In the first round, teams from over 270 colleges participated to devise a strategy for IIM-A's own NGO with an education initiative-Prayaas. The participating teams were expected to scale up Prayaas and make a presentation on how it can help more students in their education.
"The second round will include a visit of the selected teams to an Ahmedabad-based NGO-Saath, which works on an array of issues like livelihood, health and education, governance, human rights, housing, microfinance. Students will stay there for an entire day and study the operations, before presenting a strategy to scale up and improve the operations of the NGO. This will help the NGO make a bigger difference in what they are doing," said Shrinivas.
