National Institute of Technology, Karnataka
or popularly known as NITK has partnered with Mitacs-a research
organization based in Canada. Mitacs brings together industry and
academia to develop cutting edge tools. The MoU between NITK and Mitacs
will facilitate student and faculty exchange programs as well as
research from 95 Canadian universities to choose from.
The director of NITK revealed that
informal exchange is common among faculty members working for
educational projects in different educational institutions in India and
abroad. However, a MoU will provide structure to the tie-ups. Adding to
the statement, the director also informed that similar tie-ups with
BITS, Pilani, IITs, Mumbai and Roorkee and NIT Trichy are on board.
NITK has agreed to fund UG/PG students through a research promotion
scheme. Under this scheme scholars aspiring to present papers in
national level seminar are likely to get Rs 10,000. However, those for
international conferences will get Rs 25,000 and for students going
abroad for summer internship will receive Rs 40,000. The institute has
revised its curriculum for all batches of UG and PG courses in May 2012
and the new batches are currently studying the revised curriculum.
The newly introduced programme promotes self learning and increases
the learning capacity of each individual. The number of institute
research Scholarships given each year has also been doubled from 50 to 100 by NITK.
