CBSE enhances visibility via YouTube channel

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) became the first board of education in India to have a YouTube channel, with its launch of CBSE Channel. Furthering its mandate of using technology to drive education, CBSE created the channel on which affiliated schools can post videos made by them. This would boost branding as well as provide a greater audience to affiliated institutions.
The CBSE, through its latest initiative, aims to bring greater visibility to activities occurring in affiliate schools and would like to become more accessible. A special team has been constituted to monitor content of the videos posted on the channel. A set of guidelines, to be followed for posting videos has also been formulated.
Schools can send 10 minute videos of activities undertaken by them. Activities need to be based on preapproved themes and a short write up of a maximum of 45 words must be sent along with the video. The write up will be posted online for viewers.
The videos must be sent in a CD via post or as email attachments by March 31. The board has received an overwhelming response to their initiative and 168 videos are already available on the channel.
The board will retain rights to videos posted and can use it in the future as it sees fit. Senders have been advised to edit the video in a way which will appeal to audiences and will display a sense of professionalism. Apt titles which easily convey the contents of the video to viewers will also need to be provided.
Further, to avoid issues of plagiarism, senders have been cautioned to leave out third party copyrighted content and material subject to third party proprietary rights. The videos must also not contain objectionable material or material which may hurt the emotions and sentiments of any community, region, religion, gender, caste or creed.
Of the 168 videos not a single video has come from schools in Nagpur. Teachers in these schools revealed that they had very busy schedules and not much time to look into the mater. This coupled with the fact that board exams are being conducted, is responsible for the lack of content posted by Nagpur schools. Content from these schools can be expected once the next term resumes.
