IIT Kharagpur Invites Applications for Joint M.Tech/MCP-Ph.D Program

Applications are invited by Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kharagpur for admission to two years Joint Masters (M.Tech/MCP) and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) program in Engineering and City Planning at various departments for the admission year 2013-2014.

Eligibility Criteria for IIT Kharagpur:

Candidates seeking admission to Joint M.Tech/MCP-Ph.D program of the institute should have the following academic qualification. For institutes:

• Awarding degree based on aggregate marks secured in all years of the qualifying degree.
• Awarding degree based on aggregate marks secured in the final two semesters or final year of the qualifying degree:
  • GE/OBC: Minimum of 60% marks (or a CGPA of 6.5 on a 10 point scale).
  • SC/ST/PD: Minimum of 55% marks (or a CGPA of 6.0 on a 10 point scale).

How to Apply for IIT Kharagpur:

• Application for Joint M.Tech/MCP-Ph.D program is to be submitted only by an online process by accessing the website http://gate.iitkgp.ac.in/mtech from March 18, 2013 to April 08, 2013.
• The candidate should first pay the application fee by obtaining a demand draft drawn in favour of IIT Kharagpur on any nationalized bank payable at Kharagpur, West Bengal.
• The draft details are required while filling up the online application form. Candidates are required to take a print of the online application form after successful submission of data. The printed form, with candidate’s signature and photograph along with the demand draft, copy of GATE score card and relevant certificates for OBC/SC/ST/PD (as applicable) must be sent by speed post so as to reach: The Chairman, GATE, IIT Kharagpur, Kharagpur-721302 by April 15, 2013.

Selection Procedure for IIT Kharagpur:

• Admission based on GATE score only: For all the specializations in the departments AE, AG, CE, CH, CORAL, CR, CS, EC, MA, ME, MI, MS, MT, NA, RE, SIT, SMST, PH, WR, the admission will be directly based on GATE 2012 or GATE 2013 score. Candidates opting for any specialization in these departments need not appear for any personal interview.
• Admission based on GATE score and personal interview: For all the specializations in the departments AR, AT, BT, CET, EE, GG, ID, IM, RT, the admission is based on GATE 2012 or GATE 2013 score and an interview. GATE score and interview score will have 70% and 30% weight age respectively. Personal interview will be held to test the following:
  • Motivation and aptitude for the program
  • Suitability for the department/school/centre
  • Skills in basic science, engineering, and relevant areas
